one more vs test: new beetle conv. vs. new miata

the other comparison i thought about... since i now live in the deserts of california, is to have a nice little convertible (having a truck and a convertible in the garage seems just a tad less fun than having 2 svx)... within my price range are the new beetle and the miata... miata, of course, has better performance while the new beetle is just a bit more practical....

so... let the debates begin

Miata, no contest if you're looking for fun open-top motoring, and reliability. I wouldn't buy a VW product at this point in time unless actually built in Germany.

Miata. Way more fun to drive and lots of good engineering.

I'd buy a used Mazdaspeed miata! Now that's a sweet car!

I'm with Chike!

...or just go with a slightly used Miata and pocket the savings. I'm not a big fan of the new body style.

lighten up, Francis - i was joking. i'm sorry if you really are a hairdresser.

i would avoid the VW like the plague, however. my friend's wife just HAD to have a Beetle, and he finally bought her one. three months later, she never wanted to see it again and it was sold. that VW quality stereotype is no joke. i think the final straw was the gas door cable braking and needing the prybar to put gas in it....

how much do hairdressers make anyways?
i wonder how many people got the chicane joke...
seems like the miata is much favored over the beetle...

a vx and a miata in the garage, i think i can live with that...

what's the going rate of a 5 spd svx nowadays??

We all know and miss Rob, NOT! How about a Mini Cooper S Convertible? If you can save up for the Works package, it's even better.

Now were talking!!!!! No AWD though. Or a nice 968 Cab, 911 Targa, 911 Cab, 911 Turbo Cab, 911 Carerra 2S Cab, etc.... The list is a long one if you are looking for a real automobile, and not just a car!

Miata's and Beetles are a dime a dozen.

funny you brought up the 914...
i was talking to german performance operations in nashville (they worked on my s4) and they were saying that it is possible to build a 914 for less than 8 grand.... and they were saying that parts for the 914 are relatively cheap

you can stuff a smallblock V8 in them, too. i think i read about a WRX engine in one, also.

edit: here's a WRX-powered 914 video: http://www.renegadehybrids.com/914/l...compressed.avi
