The STI has always weighed more than the base WRX. Remember, I'm not considering an '06 STI - just the regular WRX sedan.

The '05 & '06 STIs weigh even more than 3263lbs as Subaru added a limited-slip front diff - weight is now just a tad over 3300lbs...

I got to drive the n/a legacy...and like i said in another thread WOW that car has a lot of pep for 168 HP.
Yeah, those n/a motors are definitely very peppy.

While modding the SVX is great, I seriously want to build a mid 12 second car for my next project. It can be done with a Legacy, but it'll be so much easier (and cheaper) with a WRX.

I know... It's definitely making me think twice about getting a WRX as I wouldn't want anyone to ever think I'm associated with such an ignorant group of people!

"The SVX engine was the best part of the whole car, and it wasn't great. It isn't even the best 6 cylinder Subaru has produced. To be honest, it probably isn't the second best 6 cylinder they produced. The 2.7 from the XT6 was a better designed engine, and to be honest, may have been the best block Subaru every built. They were so well balanced that with upgraded springs they would spin to 10,000 rpms without problems.

Referring to an earlier post. The SVX had it's MSRP just over 30k when introduced in 1992. It did get as high as 40k in 1997 and Subaru was practically trying to give them away. SOA actually had a program in 1997 that if you sold an SVX you would call Cherry Hill on the phone. There they had a wheel that a guy would spin and tell you if you won prizes. That is how desperate they were to get rid of the pathetically fake wooden interiors, chintzy trim and unpopular looks.

The only people you will find that think the SVX is a great car are people who are obsessed with them. Much like Corvair people, except the Corvair was probably a better car. In the last two years at the dealership we have had 3 SVXs that have been cared for and maintained properly that required repairs so major, and so expensive that the cars were given up and sold for parts. 3...in two years!!!

Of course, the rest of the argument that I keep hearing is even more funny.
"The SVX would have been great if Subaru had turbocharged it...if it had been lighter...if...if." That is never a good argument.

As I said before, I like the SVX, but I don't try to fool myself, or others into thinking that it was, or is a great car. To be honest, it really isn't even a good car. If you want a unique, high quality, super touring car, that is 3700 lbs. Go buy a Skyline R34."

god help us all...my brain is about to explode.

No matter how tricked out someone's WRX is... it's just another WRX. It's basically a 5.0 Mustang circa 1992, or a Honda Civic circa 2000. Dime a dozen, even with a crazy turbo kit, or whatever other mods someone fabs in there.

The SVX on the other hand will never be as common as a WRX... a bone stock SVX is more unique than *any* US Impreza. It's not about how much faster WRXs are than SVXs or, how crazy your turbo kit is, etc. There's something about the SVX that the WRX will simply never have, because it's a different kind of car than the WRX... it's got class and finess, even if it's also got its share of issues.

I should know, I've got one of each
I feel the same way about teh forester xt.
cool car, I like it alot, it's fastAr than the svx, but it is no replacement.

The svx has soul.

Matt, I agree with you 100 percent. Its not about the SVX being fast at all...and i think thats what the WRX guys on nasioc are contruing from the posts on that thread...they think its about how fast the cars are. They dont understand that the SVX was bad timing by subaru. I mentioned how the WRX was never compared to a porsche...some guy linked me to 3 or 4 different articles where they compared a sti to a 911. Now the STi might be powerful but for some reason the SVX seems like a better comparison. Just because of its luxury and things like that. Our cars are different and unique and you honestly feel like a completley different person when your behind the wheel of an SVX. But as many have said before...you won't know if you dont own one. I love it when people say the car looks bad on nasioc....ive never heard one bad thing about my cars looks. I get a compliment on it every single day.

Buy my 2000 RS Coupe (2,720 lbs) and put a turbo kit on it, still have a lot less in it than a new Legacy GT or a WRX, and be lighter....and has a ton of aftermarket too.....
