Unhappy noisy power steering pump...Help!

Hi guys.

It's getting cold now up here in Canada......

....And my power steering pump is quite noisy when I first start the car in the morning (brrrrrrr!). After warming-up for a while, the noise disappears.

I checked fluid the level and it's fine.... My guess is that the noise is due to cavitation (air bubbles) inside the pump caused by some worn O-ring(s), which is amplified by the cold weather....

Has anybody experienced this before??? What was the fix ???

Thanks for your help.

Air getting pulled thru a hose hole or thru the "O-ring" at bottom of reservior. Gets worse when it gets colder outside cause the fluid gets thicker.

Many of us have experienced this before. It's an easy fix:

NOTE TO ALL: The "How To" personal locker holds a wealth of information and is something of an answer to FAQ's. Bookmark it, or place it in your mind that it is available. It's a super source of info. I don't mind re-posting things over and over, but, please keep the "How To" locker in mind.

Happy to do it. I've been cleaning up the 5-Speed Laundry list and install pages. Once I get 'em all purdy, I'll post them. Trouble is, they're on my home computer and I'm stuck here at work. Oh well, it pays the bills . . . well, sometime.

Thank everyone for your help!

I've ordered ALL the seals and o-rings and I'll be doing a complete overhaul of the pump this week-end.

P.S. I didn't know about this "how to" folder.... I'll keep it in mind!
If I come up with a cool fix, can I post it there???

Joe, only Admin can post to the "How To," but, if you come up with something good, just PM it to me and I'll post it.
