Apologetic newbie with basic headlight question
Hi.
I just found this forum (link was posted in an alt.autos.subaru usenet post) and I think my faith in the internet was just rekindled... Anyway, I have a very basic question. I tried searching the thread archive and couldn't find a reference to this - I apologize if I missed a thread that already answers it. One of the low beam headlights is burned out. I just want to replace the bulb. I see where the bulb attaches to the rear of the headlamp enclosure, and it looks like I have to remove a plug type connector, and then (possibly) remove threee philips head screws to get the bulb assembly out. How do I remove this connector without breaking it? There is a, uh, latching tab (?) that clicks into place - do I depress something, lift something, just pull, what? Also, once I get the electrical connection disconnected, do I really need to remove some screws, or is the bulb assembly removeable with a simple 'n pull type motion? Thanks, Ray Garrison, '92 SVX (2nd one, first was stolen.) |

Welcome to the forum. In answer to your question, just diconnect the plug and give the remaining unit a part twist. I cannot remember if its right or left, but it doesnt take much force. The bulb is just a twist-lock in the hole. Remmeber when putting in the new bulb, never toutch the surface of the bulb glass with your fingers. The oils from your hands will cause premature failure.
Hope this helps. If not, I wil take pictures of the process for you and post them if you wish.

Ray. Welcome. No need to be apologetic. We've all been newbies here and we've all asked repetitive questions. One of the reasons we started the "Network" was to allow "newbies" to ask those repetitive questions without getting hit with a full fledged flame thrower.
Again, welcome and make yourself at home. You'll find us to be a warm and inviting group -- with the occasional -- okay, more than occasional -- fit of insanity.

Back from the Dead of 7 years ago. Yep, this post is helping me today. I will go back downstairs now and attempt to remove the light bulb. I thought it was a twist like my Impreza but I didn't want to break anything and had begun removing the screws.
Search = Teh Greatness!!! Thanks!

Don't remember for sure...
but the screws may hold in the fog lite bulbs.
Buy the lo beams and you can tell by the new ones which way to turn the burned out one to replace it (them) Welcome!!! Keith |

Oh! and remember the cheap mod for brighter lights.. use the High beam light bulbs (9005) instead of the low beam bulbs (9006) (upgrading lights info here)

As we both know, I have extensive experience removing and installing the fog lights (and fuse!) They are twist off, just like the headlights. Though do it when the car is cold, or you WILL burn yourself on the radiator.
