Tires...

can we get by with wider tires on these cars than 225/50-16? would a 245/50-16 fit w\o rubbing? Anyone ran this size? Any feedback on whether its worth it to go wider?

Thanks,
Sonny

Seems like cozykat (?) had a post awhile back that said she did something like that - but just on one end. I'd like to know how that turned out.

Anybody remember that?

Has anyone heard anything out of her lately? She and Halistan both seem to have vanished off the radar......

Well, from my experience, I would say look it over pretty close... I just put 225\50-16's back on my car, this week, and THEY are a tight fit in the back. I honestly dont know if anything wider would work, at all. Of course that is w\o doing something, rolling the fender, etc., etc. I'd say check it out closely. Sonny

Wheel Bearings?

Do you think putting wider tires on would put even more stress on the already weak and easy to break wheel bearings?

Tire Size

I am going out on a limb here. I used to work for Winston Tire Company.

For a tire say 225/50ZR16's is what I run on mine.

The 225 is the circumference on the center of the tire.
The 50 is the % of the height of the sidewall compared to the width of the tire.
The 16 of course is the rim size.

so a 245 or a 235 would be taller possibly but with a 45 would bring it down. I think you'd just have to go to a tire place that is willing to mount one and bolt it on the front and see the tire swing and then mount it on the back for rubbing.

Ok guys theres my neck. Try to lop off my head in one pass if I am wrong here.

Ciao
Wayne

PS. See I am still here.
PPS. She goes to sale tonight. We have a community lot that is guarded and they keep the keys for you. $35 for the first 2 weekends then $25 the 3rd weekend then free until it sells. Buyers can start and check out features of the cars but can not drive them. Pretty good set up.

Tire Size

Wayne,

The first number in your tire designation (225) is the width of the tire, (sidewall to side wall) in millimeters. Only a nick in the neck. The rest is spot on.

Just a nick

Chuck,

For some reason I recall it being the circumference. But I have been known to be wrong. Well. maybe once.

Thanx
Wayne

PS. I will take your word for it. But don't be offended if I do some research on it. Just trying to disprove myself.

i am not really worried about the front.

but the space in the rear is limited. i am sure it would rub! because when i stick my finger in the rear wheel well between the tire and the fender it is about an inch, inch and a half. how much wider is a 235 vs. 225? anyone know the conversion? i am metric ignorant.

25.4mm = 1 inch.
So 10mm is just over 3/8"
Doesn't sound like much but I think it could give you problems.

Don't forget that you're gonna need some clearance for the passive rear wheel steering!
