Lion Chasing me

Guys,

If the infamous Lion is rearing it's ugly head as I drive. how long before I have to replace the bearings before real damage is done. It is not bad but I think it might be there. However, I did put different tires on the front and they are much quiter then the old ones were. The Portenza's are in the back and are louder than the Kumho's in the front.

Maybe that's it maybe it's not.

Talk to me. I can take it.

Bearing vs tire noise

Wayne,
I recently replace tires and wheels on our 92 due to two bent wheels and concern by the tech that the bent wheels were contributing to the bad bearings (3 rears so far). The noise from the stock wheels/tires was very similar to an impending bearing failure. Once the new 17" wheels and tires went on, the noise completely vanished

Don't rule out tires as the culprit.

Todd

Don't rule out tires as the culprit

Todd,

That was my first thought on that also. Since the Kuhmo's are nice and quite and the Portenza's are not and are still in the back I thought they might be.

thanx for the response. Not that I am completly ruling out the bearings but will keep it in mind.

And yes guys the circumferance of the tires in the same or very close. The old Portenza's were fairly new and the kohmo's are brand new. The previous owner always changed them in pairs not Quad's. and no ill effects. She is on her second Tranny with 80k+ on it and still going strong. So when these wear out I will replace all 4 next time.

Thanx
Wayne
