Condensation in tail light
Hi guys, been sitting on a duck for over 12 months so I'm making my first post. Anyone had this problem with condensation & found it difficult to solve? Can't find any cracks in the lens or poor fitting gasket. I'm fed up with removing the thing(dropped one of the nuts into its nether regions the first time I took it out)now I take it out with magnetic spanner & put it in front of a dehumidfier for a day. I've been doing this for 4-5 years, don't drive it in the wet if I can help it now.
Trevor, I got 30.3mpg on that drive back from your place, works out about the same as the RSKB4(i.e. with the wife in the car) prefer the SVX any day. Had a ring from a guy in Waipu yesterday that is looking to buy an SVX, know of any for sale? He aint getting mine. Brent |

Hi Brent
this happens with my svx, I think it is from water build up in the sides of the boot behind the wheel arches where the drain hoses for the sun roof run, some times they get blocked or come away. The water evaporating is what causes the condesation in the tail lights. 'E' |

Mine does it a tiny bit, yet another feature of the SVX and nothing to be too concerned over.
I've seen a 1996 with 30,000km on it with the same problem (worse than mine though!) Cheers James PS: welcome also!!

TL Leak
Had this problem in RTL of my '92...here's what I did for fix:
1) Removed RTL asy. 2) Rotated same in global axes until I could see water seeping out. (My leak was along top of lens asy) 3) Heated RTL with hair dryer until all water cooked out (took quite awhile). 4) Reinstalled RTL and laid strip of electrician's tape along top of TL where it joins bodywork...sealing any gap. 5) No condensation in TL since. (It's been 2yrs now.) |

This is a common problem. If you take both lights off, take the gaskets and switch left to right and right to left. Be careful not to tighten then to much, or they may leak again. Good luck.

I have never been able to get 30 MPG out of my SVX but I must admit I have never tested it on a straight run with no stop/starts. I regard mine as a rather hungry beast as do many others posting. Mine is used every day in stop go city traffic which probably gives a bad over all impression. There was an Auckland guy offering an SVX here Ňin down underÓ post dated 16 Sept. Check back and have a look. It was a four wheel steer which is not good. Mileage of 88k for a 92 looked rather suspect. Price was $12k. An e-mail address was given. Cheers. Trevor.

Tail light condesation
Thanks guys, I'll reverse those gaskets & see how that goes. I let the moisture build up too much last time, took 3 days to dry up. The mystery is no matter what angle I tip the assy. the water won't run out, just goes round & round. Don't know why I didn't think of that gasket trick.
Cheers.... Brent |
