There were some SVX'es made that have 4ws. I guess your's is one of those. It easy enough to tell. Jack up the rear of the car and have a look at the lateral stabilizer arms on the rear suspension. If the car is 4ws, you'll see some equipment that can change the length of the rear stabilizer bar.

4WS was standard on JDM Version L models (leather seats). Only operates at 'high' speeds.

Check Jamsvx's site for more info and a translation of the JDM Owner's Manual I did in regards to the 4WS light;

http://www.geocities.com/jamsvx/4ws.html
http://www.geocities.com/jamsvx/trans4ws.html

Note that should the system fail, the wheels will be remain in the position at time of failure.

You have a problem but I can put you onto someone who is an electyronics boffin who sorted out his own system. I have his paper on the subject. You will not get better advice.

If you want assistance phone me, you have my number and you can call and see me. You are only 15 mins. away. Four wheel steer cars I gather are cheap in Japan because of anticipated trouble and expense and several have been imported by dealers as a result of the price factor.

I can only help you properly if you make proper contact.

Sorry, never driven a 4ws

Also, I suffer from a common affliction 'transparanoid' - the continually questioning of a passenger, "does that feel right to you?'

Common symptoms are:

feeling the transmission tunnel...non-stop...for heat
listening to every single noise the car makes
watching rpm' like a hawk
sitting on www.subaru-svx.net and saying "oh %$^%, mine does that", changing colour 4 times then fainting

I recall somewhere, I may not be right though, that the 4ws mechanism had something in common with that used in the Mitsubishi 3000GT or what the Japanese market called the GTO

Let us know how it goes!

James
