Depends

The noise is made by the rollers dropping into the pits caused by erosion.

I ran mine for a very long time, abou 30K, before I replaced the right rear. Only in the final month did the noise get so bad to drown the radio. Sounded like a V8 in the back.

Depends how gradually yours is getting noisier. Catastrophic failure [Read: wheel falls off!] happens when the rollers are so distorted by the bashing, they break up. Bearing inner and outer hulls separate, wheel falls off.

If it's pretty noisy, and you must drive it, check how bad it is. Jack up that wheel, firmly grasp and move it [try to twist it]. If there is ANY movement at all, be very careful, don't drive it.

If there is no movement at all, it MAY be safe, you decide the risk.

Cheers

Joe
