It appears to be the lighter Bordeaux red, rather than the classier Claret that is on mine. It also has the brighter silver on the wheels. Bet yours are a shade or two darker than this.

Joe

PS The VRT office [car import duty] have just quoted me a range of 1650Euro to 3000Euro to import a 1991 SVX, depending on condition. I really, really can't wait until somebody successfully takes them to the European Court to have this stopped. We were promised "tax harmonisation" and a "free market" back in the 70s when the new Europe was a Common Market. Taxes still only ever seem to harmonise upwards , and I don't see what's free about 3000Euro duty on a 11 year old car.

Too rich for me.

Nice shot Andy, and I would be tempted.

However, £7k mentioned above is about Euro11.3k in our money. On top of this I would have to pay import duty. This is assessed at 30% of what the VRT office reckons the car is worth on the market. I am guessing they would put a value on this of about Euro30k, so they would look for an additional Euro9k from me to import. This makes a car available on your market for £7k [Euro equivalent 11,100] cost to an Irish resident £12,800 or Euro20,300. We are being screwed, screwed, screwed, and I for one am not very happy about it!

O/T, Utica??

Hey Todd,

Just noticed your address. Is there by any chance a gun factory in your area? Or possibly a regular National clay shooting event, something like that?

Reason I ask is, I remember in the past coming across an American gun, possibly Browning or Winchester, but maybe Remington, with a model called Utica. Memory is vague, but it think it may have been a repeating shotgun. Any connection?

Another thought! Is there a prison in the area? Possibly they were standard issue for the guards

Joe

If you made a general enquiry from VRT, would they be able to give a theoretical valuation for you to work from? Seems a little unfair if they don't use some sort of book price.

As the old saying goes "Every cloud has a silver lining" Your high taxes save me a fortune. I buy my vans new from Eire and as they are exported I pay no tax. (Guernsey is tax free for cars) BUT to be competitive, the manufacturers pretax price in Eire is about 40% less than here. This means that I can buy a van, run it for two years and then sell it for about £1k more than I paid for it. Yipee

Yes Joe, there is a large facility rather near my home called the Detroit Sportsmens Congress. I don't know if it is a nationally recognized facility, but it has been around for years.

No prisons close. Plenty of felons and pre-felons though.

First question, yes, in general. The more cars of a particular type that go through the system, the better they can estimate the price, and they use a range of conditions along the line of Excellent, Good-fair and Trade-poor, hence the three prices I mentioned earlier.

However, when you present them with a model such as the SVX with maybe three in the whole of Ireland, puts the database in a wobble, and the reaction is "You're buying a wha??"

And as for the fact that you and the rest of England and Northern Ireland can buy cars here in Ireland for next to nothing, and personally import them with no import duty, I am trying very, very hard to be happy for you. As you say, Andy, Yippee

Joe

Todd,

Probably my addled memory playing tricks on me. Could be I am thinking of an Ithaca. They are a NY company who make nothing else only slide or pump action shotguns.

No doubt Wendy's Dad could have told us that in an instant.
