real quick question!

alright, i finally got my cigarette lighter out! now, i could change the fusible link with a new wire, or, would i simply remove that washer in between the 2 plates? i'm pretty sure it isn't conductive, or it would be working. is there any hazard in simply doing that?

Re: real quick question!

yes! i was able to do it so easily. alright, it's too dark for pictures, but if you can't do it i'll take some tomorrow morning. take off that plastic panel on the left of the stereo, where your right knee is while you drive. there are 3 clips, don't break them. once you remove that plastic panel, there is a metal one behind it. take off the 3 or so philips screws, and one ratchet screw in the back. after that, take off the one philips screw to the right of the metal plate, then the metal plate should be loose (to a degree). once you move the metal plate (i couldn't get a top screw out, so i just spun it to where i could reach my hand inside the console), reach inside with a tiny flashlight, look for the cigarette lighter. it should be sitting on this black metal plate, pull down on that plate for a better view. from there, there is a thing around the lighter, it looks almost like a bottle cap. try to unscrew it (i was able to use one finger, it wasn't very tight) then after that's off, the metal ground housing around the lighter will come loose, then pull (gently, but firmly) on the lighter and it should pop out, along with the black oval thing around it. that should slide off. then all you have to do is slide the wire off of the lighter, you should be able to pull it off, it's not attached in any way. to put it back, do the following but backwards. good luck, because i'm about to try it.

make sense?

Makes about as much sense as possible without having given it a shot.

To the garagemobile!

Re: real quick question!

Thats probably the best way of getting to the cig lighter. Small hands are best for this project. Make sure you tighten the screw on the back up, the bottle cap and other parts should be on there pretty tight. I have taken it apart twice and I am going to have to do it again, the nut on the back keeps coming off so I am going to have to rig something to stop that as its annoying to play around back there. Also, if you need light in there to see, just pop out the ash tray and shine a light in there.

Well that was ridiculously easy. So it turns out my problem was the little screwing bit to the grounding thingy fell off which was causing a short or something. Fixed now.

Now I can think about trying this thing out. B]

Re: real quick question!

:O that's awesome! good news! i got mine fixed now :] it was simply that common fusible link. put a little wire in its place. bad news, the little green ring around the cigarette lighter is now burnt out i must have broke it while i was putting it all back together

but congrats on getting yours fixed! it was pretty simple. everyone should do it this way! if only there was an easier way to take it all apart..
