How much input do "the guys at Subaru" receive from the real world.

In the opinion of consumers there cars are far from perfect.

Re: trans question

Nothing, car wise, is perfect so that is pretty much a moot argument. Unfortunately everything is built to a cost and not as the best it can be this side of a Veyron IMO.

Regardless of your opinion, no one on this earth knows more about the subject than those that designed, tested and built the car in the first place. Your argument that the updated part being the problem isn't really valid since the problem lies in maintenance, or the lack thereof.

As always YMMV.

If so, why was my SVX when built, not fitted with a filter.

Agreed that lack of maintenance was the problem. This is not uncommon. Hence the opinion and reason for not fitting a filter. Blocked the filter can destroy the transmission. Lack of a filter is very unlikely to do so.

Removing the pan and giving the trannies backside a wipe on a regular basis is the way to go.

Re: trans question

A clogged air filter can degrade performance. Using your logic, I guess we should forgo using those as well?

My 92 wasn't originally fitted with the external filter, it was added later correct? I could be wrong but I thought that was added later to the 92-93 models?

And for wiping backsides, I have 3 kids so I really don't want anymore to wipe!

I just assisted in wiping the rear end of a granddaughter. *Her mum is at this moment involved in delivery a brother.

*P.S. Back from hospital --- turned out to be a false alarm.
