Transmission problem
I'm new to the Subaru world and recently bought a 1992 SVX LS-L and
My transmission is slipping 2nd to 3rd and I believe 4th to Over drive. I'm considering to rebuild or or put in a used tranny. Looking to rebuild myself, though it would be my first rebuild or I would install an Automatic or possibly a Manual (used) transmission? Does anyone have any advice on the most ecomical way to go about my repair or replacement? PS; I have also noticed that the rear wheels don't seem to be working... it seems to be FWD mode? Thanks very much for your time? |

Re: Transmission problem
getting a 2nd opoin would be worth while ,thought all those are signs of a bad trans ,since one of the problems is lack of oil to the high clutch ,if you have never rebuilt a auto trans and dont have to tool s or the books plus the 5 pages of updates to do let someone else do it ,5sp conversions can be done if you have mechanical know how and 3 to 5 k to use

The lack of rear wheel drive provides an additional clue. Fingers crossed, that things will not work out very expensive.

Re: Transmission problem
I am not very knowledgeable about transmission but number one, is your car an "all wheel drive" model? Some were front wheel drive only models" Also, check and see if the " front wheel drive fuse" is "NOT" in. It needs to be out in order to have all wheel drive.

Re: Transmission problem
A pressure gauge is connected to a port in the transmission. A reputable transmission shop will have the required gauge. There is a member here who has one.
