Svx engine into impreza?

So, I got a free parts SVX a couple months back that I've stripped pretty much everything valuable out of it, which means I have a spare engine kicking around. As far as I know it ran just fine and the car only had 50k miles on it when it was retired, which would lead me to believe that the engine hasn't had much use. Now one day not too long ago, I was sitting around with my buddy at my house and his car happened to be sitting very close to the engine. That got me thinking what would happen if I bought a blown up GC8 2.5 RS and threw this engine in it? I know it would be a custom job but from what I understand, it will bolt up just fine. I did a little measuring, and the radiator would definitely have to be moved foreward, but it would definitely fit in the Impreza engine bay. The wiring would be a PITA but I'm pretty patient.

The power and torque in the light body of an Impreza, I think, might make for a very fast little car. Plus I have a couple sources where I could get a car like that for under a grand. Seems like a fairly simple project to reseal the engine and throw it in a GC8. Plus I would have a spare in case something happened to the one in my SVX. Another thought would be putting it into a Legacy or a Forester (I think the Forester would be really unique too).

Input? Good idea? Pure blasphemy? I'd like to hear what you guys think.

There are more than a handful of videos nowadays of various EG33 swapped Subarus, and there are actually two that are local to your area, one a red coupe and another a red sedan.

Re: Svx engine into impreza?

This has been done more than a few times, and it's really nothing new.

That said, it's the best idea I've heard all day! I say go for it. Something I would also VERY much like ot do myself!

Re: Svx engine into impreza?

My bet is either an oil cooler or a power steering fluid cooler

Re: Svx engine into impreza?

Yeah, I saw the vid of that efilogics car right after I posted this. So I guess it's been done a few times before, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to do it. Anyone ever heard of it being done in a Forester?

Boxersix, how do you like the swap?

Still an in-process thing at the moment. Getting the motor in the car is the easy part. Getting all the OBD1 wiring sorted out and still retaining a functioning OBD2 system in the car so I can pass NYS inspection is the tricky crap.

And yes that is an oil cooler mounted off a bracket I made. Fits in the same spot as the oem "H6" plastic covers, and vents through the wrx TMIC hood scoop(now a custom vent)
