No, they are the same wheel bearings.

The Tom's do not convert from FWD to AWD. They simply stare at the car until the rear wheels start engaging out of fear of Tom's might.

(My feeble and weak attempt at applying a Chuck Norris style joke to the two Toms)

Actually it depends. If your FWD does not have ABS brakes, there is a bit more involved or to consider as hubs do not have tone wheels for ABS sensing or the holes for sensing.

IF you have ABS on the FWD-piece of cake.

It does not matter if there is ABS or not. You reuse the same hubs from the car.. Just route the sensor wires the same way they were on the old subframe. Even if you do not have ABS on your FWD you can use ABS hubs, the sensors and tone rings just don't do anything. There are no spline differences in the hubs themselves, they simply have a spindle/axle stub

Looking at it from that perspective you are entirely correct, of course. I guess I should have made it clear to say that it would not be easily possible, if at all, to convert a non ABS FWD to an ABS AWD car.

I ran ABS hubs on my FWD non ABS car for one bearing iteration. (removed them from my parts car) Once I replaced the bearings, I put the correct hubs back on.

Re: How hard is it to make a 2WD a 4WD??

ah, I understand.. Personally I hate ABS but this is from a performance aspect and not a daily driving. The wiring would be intense to run a whole ABS system as I don't think much of it is there
