Have I found the 4.44's ?

Hey guys, long time Suby nut who just got his first SVX. Actually my wife bought it for me while I was out to sea as a surprise.
Its a '92, originally green met., but now a purple with a blue flip-flop (or is it blue with a purple flip-flop?). Very clean car, no real damage, no rust, all the little toots and wistles work (aside from the trans), nice leather and suede.
The windshield is cracked and the passenger door glass is busted out (someone took the radio), but the owner gave my wife a new windshield with the car. I just need a door glass.
Me, I am in LOVE!...with my wife too of course
I thought about a manual swap at first, but after reading a lot about trany's for SVX's on this site, I have decided to find and swap in a 4.44 4EAT. I really want to drive this car a lot, and so does my wife (who doesn't like stick-shifts too much), and it is a much easier swap to do.
I found two Outbacks in the local U-PULL-IT yard today, a 96 and a 97, I also saw a 96 Legacy L sedan with a 2.5 (with a 2.5? in a L model? isn't that kinda odd?). I think the outbacks are what I need for the 4.44 gears. The part #'s for the trany's are right on top aren't they?
I have pics of both of them, if these are the #'s. Is there any way to be absolutely sure?
One car has a thrown rod, the other was t-boned hard, so both trany's were most likely operable when they stopped. One has 230K, the other 190K.
The trany's will be $75.00 a piece, the rear diffs $35 each (minus 20% for military!) with 30 day warranties. So needless to say, if they are 4.44's I will get them all.

So what does everyone think? The right Stuff?

2.5's pretty much all have 4.44's, but I would probably suggest startin out with something with a little lower mileage.

That sounds like a great price ... I'd grab them if I were you...
My daughter's outback has well over 200k and it still shifts perfect!

Yea, I know the mileage is high, but both trany's and a rear diff are gonna run me about $150.
How can you argue about that?

There is a silver label on the rear diff that gives the ratio, it will match the tranny (hopefully). You need it to make the swap, so dont forget it.

You have found tags you can read on the rear diff

I was actually pretty surprised to find my 92 svx case, etc in MUCH better condition than the 98? donor. being that at the time it was about or less than half the age of my SVX. always had a hard time reading those labels though on prezas and legs.

Just got back from the Pick-a-Part yard.
The boys and I pulled 2 Outback Trans, a 2.5GT Trans, all three rear diffs, the carpet and plastic carpet saver from the back of an Outback, a rear hatch latch, a couple of new NAPA starters, a rebuilt alternator, and some other odds and ends...
Total was $320.00

Now the fun begins!

They stopped using that tag at some point in the 90's. I've never seen it on a Gen 2 Legacy, I'm not sure if 95 was the first year without or not???

I'm guessing the SVX's had them through 97??
