Mystery Part

In the process of changing out my PCV valve (can't get the d@mn thing off) I found this laying on top of the engine below and behind the valve. What is it?

Man, I have no idea. I've not seen anything like that. Perhaps it was a part from another car that a tech dropped while working on the SVX in its previous life. Anyone else have a clue?

It covers the access port on EJ/EG/EZ engines.

Atop the bell housing; it allows access to the flywheel. It's upside-down in the first photo. The ridges shown force-fit inside the opening.

What usually happens is that the little tabs that hold that piece in place break off over time and the piece falls off.

You will find where it goes if you look at the top-back of the engine on the passenger side. Through the hole you will see the gear of the torque converter. Your best bet is to put a bead of silicone on it before putting it back then allow it to sit overnight.

I found mine there as well. I eventually bought a new one. That's how I found out the tabs were broken off my old one.

Well it's actually only to allow access to the flexplate/torque converter. You shouldn't be doing anything to the flywheel through the access port.

Why do you need to get into the accessport on a manual if you are pulling the engine?

So there's a cover on the top of the tranny and a gaping hole on the bottom. Figures...
