Suspension
Has anyone ever had a problem with there rear suspension when there are 2 adults sitting in the back, there is no room between the top of the rear tyre and guard. Its constantly rubbing the tyres. I have put aftermarket rims on my car so it may have something to do with that.
If anyone has any ideas of what type of springs/shocks to buy because I rang up a suspension shop and not only did they never hear of an SVX, they didn't have a listing for them. Could there be another type of subaru springs I can use? Please help...... |

Maybe the rear strut mounts have worn out? How big are the wheels that you put on?

Looks like you've gone to a 17 or 18 inch rim....did you go with a lower profile tire (45 for the 17, 40 for the 18) to keep the overall diameter the same as the 225/50-16 stock set up? I'm going to guess that your aftermarket rims have a lot less offset than the stock 55mm offset. This could definitely be the root cause of your problem (okay, so the rear springs might also have a few miles on them... )

My Rims are a 17" 235, 50, I think the offset is a bit lower. I need to know if any other Subaru model springs/shocks would fit my car.
And no my rims are not for sale |

Is your car a JDM version L by any chance? They seem to sit slightly lower at the back than others. Possibly part of the problem?

I don't think subaru makes a stiffer or taller spring that fits the svx. I'd put money on it being the strut mounts. Stick your hand up in the rear quarter as far as you can go and feel for rust. There shouldn't be any. You can get stiffer aftermarket springs but I think they will lower the back even more.

If you meant to say you have 235/50-17 tires, then they're an inch taller then stock.
The offset wouldn't cause this, unless it is much lower then stock - on a 17x7" wheel, the offset would have to be below +35 (give or take a couple mm) for the tire to get anywhere near the edge of the fender. By all means, make sure your suspension is up to snuff, but I'd look into getting correctly-sized tires before jumping off a bridge and trying to fit "other Subaru model" suspension components. |

Your car looks to have about the same stance as many other SVXes that I've seen. The OEM rear springs (and front springs) are very very soft. 110 lbs/in. Two people that weigh 150 lbs each will make the rear of the car drop about 1.5". If you are using 235 width tires, and the tires are rubbing, the rims probably have too low of an offset. If you want some stiffer springs to help mitigate the problem, I can have a set made up for you. Check out the link in my signature.
