Tranny shot- Time for a 5 spd- Need parts

Well....

I thought I had 1 SVX worth preserving. A beautiful Claret '92 LSi in excellent shape. Daily driver- everything worked- shifted perfectly until....

No warning. No issues. No 1st or 3rd.

Bad week.

I was committed to trying to restore this one, but I can't justify the ridiculous cost of an AT with a known problem history.

Besides, I'm having too much fun!

So, after we finish the SVX racer for the Grassroots Motorsports Challenge, I'm doing a 5 spd swap. I scouting for parts now.

I've got my tranny- low mileage 2001 Imprezza RS with the 4:11 final drive and a hydraulic clutch.

Particularly need pedal assembly, crossmember/ mount, clutch master cylinder. Any help would be appreciated.

While its in the shop, I don't think I can resist doing the suspension. We've had too much darned fun with the racer!!

Maybe this wasn't such a bad week!

-Paul

And on that note...

Sorry to hear that Paul, I too recently have suffered that fate, my tranny is gone, but you are lucky in the sense that you have already found your replacement. I am searching for an 02 wrx 5-spd, and for the life of me, I have no contacts, and know of nowhere to look. On that note, it would be most appreciated if someone could tell me from where to source my parts. Good Luck with the swap Paul!

Try these Amazon

www.car-part.com - junkyard database

www.nasioc.com - North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club website. There are a couple of trannys available in their Private For Sale forum. I saw them this morning.

Hey Paul

After what you told me on the other thread let me know what you are having a hard time finding and I'll keep an eye out...

It seems I live in junkyards

Hey Amazon, I couldn't ever find anything for the 02 WRX stuff,
I use Car-parts.com A LOT!!!! It is a GREAT source.

I posted a thread in the Tech Q&A section. Maybe you might have some info on weather a WRX STi 6-speed trans will fit our SVXs

Hi ramsvx

You need to talk to Alex_umn he has a 6spd in his now.

I have only invested time into the 5spd due to the cost prohibitiveness of the 6spd...

Check the gearing on that 6 spd. I recall a reference to the final drive ratio being virtually the same as the 5-spd. That translates to lots more shifting, and not necessarily better launches or top end. It also translates to more money (and maybe a higher "cool factor")

A belated sorry about your 4EAT problem. Would you know, off hand, what the final gear in the 6-sp. The 5-gear, in the 5-sp is ether .780 or .738

6MT- 4th: 1.346

5MT- 4th: 0.972
6MT- 5th: 0.971

6MT- 6th: 0.756

They are awfully close.

Check this thread:

Good luck!

Again I appreicate you greatly!!! With those trans gear ratios the 5-sp is the most cost effective way to go!!!
