I've seen this problem posted about before, but, can't remember the final answer. You might go here http://svx.knowfear.net/ and search the word "shudder" and, as a secondary, you might search the misspelling of the word -- "shutter." It should bring lots of suggestions. Just look for symptoms that match yours.

the first and easiest thing to do would be to make sure the tire air pressure is at specs. Different circumferences front to rear from improper air pressure will cause a shudder at speed. My svx is very sensitive to this. Specs are in the drivers side door frame. Are all of the tires on your car the same size and type/ brand? If not you may have some problems. Different rolling circumferences on an AWD car will cause problems.

If that doesn't help then get the tires balanced properly (2nd cheapest alternative)

After that I would go after getting the rotors checked for warping, maybe even turned down - that can be cheap if you have the skills to take them off yourself and bring them to a shop. Beyond that you are going to be spending some money.

Immortal's right...

...the first thing to do is have your tires inspected, checked for out-of-round and balanced. Not that it's likely, but another possibility is that you might have a small tread separation. If so, you'll want to replace immediately. As I said, that's pretty unlikely, but an inspection will tell you for sure. I would also have them inspect the rims, to make sure you don't have one bent somewhere.

What kind of tires do you have? What's their state of wear?

I agree...

..Check tires first. Then as a solution thats cheaper than the tranny check all the drive shafts/halfshafts. They have rubber dampers on them and i have seen them come off...
