Torque Convertor Revs
We have been discussing torque convertor action on the European Forum, and I am not happy with the way mine works, never have been. I would prefer if a request for acceleration in top [4th] saw 3rd selected, with the resultant higher revs giving higher tranny pump pressures, better torque region of the rev range and also the use of the torque multiplier in third for added forward thrust. Instead, in mine anyway, you get leisurely pickup in 4th unless you instigate kickdown. See

re torque converter
Hi Joe,
when my tranny went the first time I thought it would be the perfect time to do something about this very problem. I decided to increase the stall point on the converter to just over 3500 rpm it currently sits at about 2800 rpm. The result was great, it felt like you were being catapulted off the line and gear changes were sharp and you were always in the power band. however the down side is normal driving feel suffered with high revs at low speeds and petrol consumption went up dramatically. Maybe somewhere in between would be better, Conclusion: great for going fast somewhere, not so great for city driving. 'E' |

Sounds good E
How did you adjust the stall point? Use a different convertor? Change the TCU or adjust the software? And last, what would you consider a better compromise? 3000? 3100? 3200? Joe

Hey Joe,
The only way to adjust stall is with a different impeller which means spliting your torque converter, as for stall rpm the higher the better its just a trade off between how fast you want to launch and low speed drivability but 3200 rpm would do. You just need to remember below 60 kph it will rev at that rpm under load. 'E' |
