Electrical problem, car dead or possessed
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. My car ran great all morning. I stoped at the mall and when I cam out to start it there was little electricity in the car. When I put my foot on the brake it cut off the final power, When I raied my foot the little power I had came back on. It also reset the car.
I put a new battery in the car and had no effect. I then had a buddy jump the car and it started right up. Ran fine. Then I got home and turned off the car. Tried to turn it on again and once again. No power. When I turn the ignition on I can see the consol light up (ABS light, batery light, etc). However it is very light and I heer a strange surg sound from the dash. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Otherwise I might have to get an exercism for her.,,,LOL |

Would the car stll run with a dead altinator? The wipers were slow when the car was at lights but when the RPM picked up the wiers went back to a normal pace.
If it is the altinator, how hard is it to put a new one on? Cheers, Adam |

Sounds like a bad or dirty conection somwhere. Could be a dirty battery terminal.
If you turn on the lights, don't worry if they don't work, leave them on, lift the hood and feel all the connections around the battery and fuse box. If there is a bad one, it will heat up and you will feel it . Harvey.

I agree with Harvey, it sounds like a bad battery terminal or cable.

I would agree with both of the posts above. It is a lack of power to have the lights be dim, and the wipers not work very fast. The car would still run even though the alternator is bad. If all of the connections are good, I would think that it is the alternator. You can take it to a shop and they will check it out for you. It is not very hard to change an alternator. If you have the proper tools, it should be fairly easy. Good luck.

Changing an alternator is a simple job.
Take the car to an auto store. Most of them offer free or really inexpensive electrical system tests that will tell you if the alternator is putting out anything. Doug

Check your ground from battery to chassis.
Mine was corroded/weak. i upgraded and many electrical problems similar to yours went away. To test this, you could attach a jumper cable from battery ground to a bare metal chassis ground (bolt head ought to work) start up your SVX and see if problems persist.
