Thanks, Keith |

Re: 02 sensor question
Could be bad
I replaced it less than 4 months ago. I am getting another but wanted to check the other possibilities. Replaced with a Bosch. If there is an oil problem could it be cleaned and could the oil be inside the exhaust system or outside the pipe where the wires fasten in? Thanks, Keith |

Re: 02 sensor question
Oil dripping onto the wires from the motor leaking oil. Mine throws a code for both but i have no change in MPG, hesitation, or other reasons but i'm replaceing them anyway because I suspect that they have never been changed since the car was new.

Re: 02 sensor question
Could running regular gasoline to save a buck make the car run stupid??

Re: 02 sensor question
yes... you will ping and and the o2 can also read as lean causing your code...
buy the gas it is worth it. unless you can have the chip and be tuned for regular gas. |

Re: 02 sensor question
Honestly, in order to monitor the 02 sensor to actually see if it is working properly you should try and find someone with a subaru select monitor. This will show you the reading the sensor is picking up. Easier way to check the sensor is to switch them around from side to side to see if the code follows it.

Re: 02 sensor question
Thanks Tom!
I was considering the switch and may do it yet! I have been replacing fuel with high octane for several fill ups and it is doing better. I can go a while on the freeway now with almost no bad results but then it will start like a little rough and the check engine light comes on. This always shows a code 37. When the slight missing occurs, I have started droping the trany down to 3rd and petal to the metal and the check engine light usually goes off and then runs smooth again. Last night I toped the tank off again with about 9 gallons and drove home... about 25 miles pretty smooth and when got home the idle was also good! Will see what the 100+ miles do taday and go from there. Thanks for the input!! Keith |

Re: 02 sensor question
Keith,
The times I put 87 octane in, the engine would let me know, usually before reaching running temperature, lots of little pauses and little jerks, just telling me how stupid being cheap is.

Highest octane I can get from now on. Probably even get a bit better mileage that way to ofset the cost. I haven't gotten to clear the code 37 for weeks and I replaced the 02 sensor today and they cleared. Sounds like Tom was right! How do I know it wasn't bad? I had replaced it only 4 months ago and thought the code not correct. Curious as to why it went bad so quickly. Well hope it is over for a while. Take care everyone... Keith |
