hmm...If people are genuinely concerned that some valuable information / images will be lost with locker deletes, then they could simply copy the images and store them on their own computer. I know I'll be saving a few pictures from other people's lockers

Some of the good threads with how-to info with pics will be 'all' gone? I can think of some threads from such as chike's , tomsvx's and etc. Also, that means all the beautiful SVX pics threads will be 'all' gone? If OT starts backing up his pics from this coming weekend, he averagely has to do at least 80pics a day until 7/20/07 For those members who have more than like 200, 300, 400 pics will take a good while too if they all need to back up. Please update us if there's any extension will be made for the due date. Some members do have some good pics for the SVXi and nice Reading Meets pics to browse and worth to save.

Too bad there isn't a way to download photos in bulk, at least a folder at a time.
I'm just wondering how the very busy svxfiles can possibly download 1647 photos in three weeks... using a dial-up connection!! .

Chris (and Chris and Jim and Earl, et al) — I understand that you all are busy, and do appreciate the time you're able to spend on this board. The information in these forums has been immensely valuable in maintaining my SVX.
I'm trying to help brainstorm some constructive solutions. As I said, my main concern is identifying locker pictures and files that are of a technical nature and which we should make sure survive the transition. I know mysql and PHP and would be willing to take a stab at writing a query. Let me know when and how we could talk about this further. Quote:

I think Chris said that the lockers make up about 4 gig. I could be wrong on that. I will help download some of OTs stuff or anyone else that has some problems doing it. We will try to help out for people who need it.

First off let me clear things up a bit. The lockers are NOT being deleted. The system they run on is just not going to be migrated to the new server/s. Right now one thing that is a mild system clog is that we are running ALL the services on one old machine. With the new layout there will be two web servers blades running load balanced and dual database server blades. We are distributing load as well as adding what is know in the industry as high availability. Its not only performance enhancing, but can allow for catastrophic machine failures without the service being noticed as down or failed to the outside world and or customers. Right now if the only redundancy we have it hard drives and power supplies. Our dual redundant power supplies lost one half of its capability and now we don't have a back up. Instead of dishing out serious money for a server with 1998 technology in it and an inability to upgrade ram, we did the server fund raiser drive. One quarter of the price of the new machine is what the replacement cost on our current multiple power supply replacement would be. When done, photos will be posted and I am POSITIVE that the performance increases and added features will be noticed and appreciated immediately.
Again please note, the lockers are not being deleted, we just don't have plans at this time to move them to the new system. I will however work with Jim to investigate ways we can keep the linked data from the forums.
