Speed related ticking noise

If I drive my car with stereo and all off I can hear a light ticking noise comming from drivers side I believe. The noise seems to be speed related when I speed up it ticks faster and as I slow down the ticking slows down until I stop the car then the noise stops. It is starting to drive me nuts and it will probably end up being as easy fix, but for now I just turn up the stereo. I do not believe it is comming from the engine. I have been under the car a dozen times even a few with it running trying to find anything that could be hitting or is out of place, but no such luck. I was thinking maybe drivers side axle is bad. Both fronts were replaced about 30,000 miles ago maybe I got a bad one. Anyone else have any ideas or maybe have had a similiar problem?

It's probally your speedometer. Mine does this too, My solution: Louder exhaust. If you want to find out for sure then take the plastic lense off your gauges and take it for a drive and see if it's louder. This is what verified it for me. Good luck.

Yeah I've already done louder exhaust and full stereo setup. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't anything serious. As far as my front differental goes wouldn't I be getting metal fragments and such comming out when I change the fluid if it was on its way out. The fluid was changed about 5 months ago and I did it again today. The fluid looked very clean with no metal shards or fragments. I will have to try taking the lense of gauges and see if its louder. Is there an easy way to get the clear lense off? Thanks for the replies.
