The problem is that the exact reason for the strange voltage drop has still not been established.

Yes Harvey reading that thread was a great help in understanding the function of the starter and cruse circuts.
Trevor I still may have you guys confused but I "did find the cause of the voltage drop". My fix was not bringing new power froom the battery I fixed the voltage drop problem the only reason I needed the relay was because the neturel switch in the gear box could not handle the high amps on the starter circut. The voltage drop that is due to the N/P switch failing over time so it doesn't let full power when it is under high current demand. There is nothing wrong witht the wiring its just the switchs. Hope I explain it right. Bad luck you guys weren't there today it was great. Tony
