So I was driving last night......

the rock was huge....

The only real damage was the rim exploding, rotor breaking apart and smashing the ABS 'ring' (not sure of correct term). But on bright side almost no body or suspension damage considering the force of impact.

In the next picture, whats the correct name for the ABS 'ring' and where can I get a replacement (circled in black). And circled in blue how hard am I supposed to hit the bolt with a hammer to get it out. (I was going at it for a few minutes.......bigger hammer time?)

Also does anyone have an extra cross drilled/slotted rotor I can buy?

I'm bidding on the tone ring right now (thx Dayle). I just need to find a rotor now, to get her back on the road.

Knocking the stud out shouldn't be particularly hard. I knocked a couple bad studs out of mine with a ballpeen(sp) hammer without any fuss. You might want to hit it with some PB Blaster or the like (though I can't imagine the penatration being all that good) and let it soak a little while. Either that or hit it with a 4lb sledge and see if it will pop out. Shouldn't come out on the first hit but shouldn't take very many. I suggess getting some spare lugnuts to pull the new stud in since the factory SVX lugs are made of pretty soft metal.

HTH

Ouch! I guess you lucky the wheel took the impact and not the control arm. Still I would get the alingment checked when your done.

You know you have to change the wheel bearing to change that tone ring right? What would bother you more, not having ABS or the light being on in the dash? (Unpluging the ABS computer under the seat gets rid of the light )

Good luck getting it all back together. And try not to hit any Really BIG Rocks!!! Whats the real story behind this? What were you doing that you shouldn't have?

^ ^ To clear this up a bit. This accident was completely my fault, I took the corner way too fast for the road conditions (covered in snow and ice). And I struck the rock sideways at a weird angle. The wheel was probably two feet off the ground when it struck the rock. I will take a picture tommorow, it will explain better.
