It seems the best way to open a locked door is not to go at the handle, but to bend a REALLY small j in the enod of a coat hanger, and slip it behind the interior door lock.
Be careful, REALLY easy to tear up your door seals this way.

For the adventurous/curious SVX owner, you can buy Slim Jims and jiggerlers pretty cheap now over the internet. I haven't had any success yet, but I haven't really tried to get in the hard way yet.

Two more ways...If you can reach the trunk lever, you can get into the trunk....I THINK you can fold the seats down from in the trunk...right?
Or, although this is probly 3/4ths the way impossible, you could reach the hood latch, open the hood and unhook the battery. this causes the doors to unlock (From what I know) Hopefully you arent still locked out of the car.

Nope you can't lower the seat backs from the trunk, unless the latch is broken or something. And disconnecting the battery kills power to the lock solenoids guaranteeing that they will stay in the exact same position as they were before. Myths busted!
It is however, possible to release the hood from the outside with the right tools and nimble enough hands. KuoH Quote:

If it was me, I would go get a new key from a dealership. It would be a lot simpler and would not hurt the car. They only need your VIN to find the code to cut a new one. You may have to prove ownership though.

ive done this a few times... lol..
one time i locked the keys out of Dayle's silver car when he was loaning it to me (Shhush, dont tell him! ) it was at my house, and i just used a coat hanger, it took about an hour of trying over and over. I didnt break anything or cut anything, but i finally got it. It takes time, and you have to be patient. I called a friend who worked for a pop a lock service, and he opened my Blue svx. Id recommend for future getting one of those magnetic key holders, and make a spare key, and attach it underneath your bumper some where. Those things come in handy! Good luck

Re: Helped! Locked out of my SVX
Managed to not only lock myself out but managed to break back in again. All within 50 minutes.
Here's what worked for me: i) A coathanger bent straight and with the ends snipped off to get nice clean tips. ii) some rigid plastic banding tape of the kind that is used to strap loads onto wooden shipping pallets. iii) Some washing-up liquid. iv) A small cigar Using the washing up liquid as a lubricant, smother the wire so it is slippery (you don't want to snag or puncture your window seals). Prise the top rear of the door by hand using only your fingers just enough to wobble-in the wire. Take the banding tape and fold it over halfway down its length and fold again about 2 inches further along - in other words exactly the width of the inside door pull. Push the lubricated banding tape past the seal and into the car too. Jiggle both the wire and the banding strap loop so they are along and above the interior door pull. By manipulating the the two ends of the loop of banding you will, with patience, be able to get the banding strap to slip on one side between the door pull and its surround. The tricky bit is now to get the other bit of the banding strap around the other side of the handle. This is where the coat hanger wire plays it part. Stay calm. Have a small cigar or cigarette if necessary. If you don't smoke now's such a great time to start. Once you have the strap under both sides of the door handle (Yayy!) prise the door open a tiny bit again and slip the straps backwards between the seal and the frame until they are halfway down the rear edge of the window frame. Then, when you are absolutely certain they will grip, just give them a hefty pull. And with that the door opens! Final step go and buy two more spare keys! Good luck |

Re: Helped! Locked out of my SVX
Shame its not a brat, those things have the best keyless entry ever. Most you can open the T-Top from the outside without tools or real effort. Which leaves you with a couple foot on a side hole to reach into to unlock the door.
Also I doubt the SVX is this way but some cars unless the window is at the very peak of its travel you can push it down without too much effort. I did this on a old Volvo one day screwing around, its kinda funny. Hands flat on glass, then pull down and the window just starts to roll down. |
