Sunroof Problems

I took my SVX to the car wash today and water started to come in through the sunroof. I checked the seal and it is coming off. I have the same problem with the passenger door. Are there quick fixes to this or do I need new seals? If so where can I get a new seal for the sunroof? I have already looked at a few places and found nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Sunroof Problems

I thought I would include a few more details. One, the sun roof seal if coming off on the front of the sunroof but is still attached the rest of the way around and it is not suffering from any kind of dry rot. It is not torn or damaged in any sort of way so would some sort of glue fix this?

Re: Sunroof Problems

They sell an actual weather stripping glue. Contact cement should work also. Something that stays pliable when dry.

Re: Sunroof Problems

I think you may have more of a problem than just the seal coming off. Check for a clogged sunroof drain, too.

Re: Sunroof Problems

Sunroofs are not designed to seal, they WILL leak, and drain out the drain tubes, if one of the drains is clogged, it will leak into the car. Check your drains, you can usually blow them out with compressed air, just be careful not to blow the lines off the sunroof. There is a factory Toyota tool that's basically a pipe snake but for sunroof drains, it also works pretty well, but kinda spendy.

Re: Sunroof Problems

It was warm today and I rediscovered a problem that I had forgotten. When I open the sunroof it moves very slowly and shutters at the halfway point. I looked at the tracks and they have what looks like grease residue. Should I re grease the things or is there a possibility the motor is broken? It opens and closes all the way I just want to put everything in working order on this beast.

Try cleaning out as much of the current grease that is in there first. Then try lubricating the track with some silicone spray.

Re: Sunroof Problems

Okay thanks, that is what I figured I should have done, I just didn't want to grease it then be told that such an act was a mistake. Thanks.
