ABS Removal
i was thinking of turning my other svx into something i could use for track days, grass carners etc with the car club i belong to. ive had the car up for sale for ages and no bites at all. so its just sitting round and doing nothing so thought i mite turn it in to race car etc. its to good to wreck.
so plan is 2 strip it out to lose weight and do manual converson for it and play round with it. was thinking i pull the abs out to save weight. Just before i do it just thought i ask some Questions . just wondering if theres much involved in doing that? is it as simple as ripping it out and plumbing the lines back in. is it ok to still use same brake master cylinder? or is it better to use an wrx sti 1 etc? isnt there an wee cpu or somthing that controls the abs and where bouts is that located? Thanxs

Just pull the ABS fuse, that will shut the ABS down and it will act like a normal brake system. You won't save much weight stripping the ABS out, since the largest component is the pump and valve body that is a few pounds at most, so I would just pull the fuse, or unplug the ABS computer.

We did this on the racer and others have done it also.
- Remove the pump - There are two lines coming from the master, they are equal. - "T" one line to front/right and rear/left, "T" the other to front/left rear/right - If you can find a "T" in the proper threads (10 x 1.25?? flare) that will be easiest, we had to use a "T" with SAE threads, cut the flare off of the lines and re-flare the tubing with SAE fittings - The computer is under the passenger seat on US cars, I'd imagine it's under your drivers seat?? It's under the carpet. - A hammer will remove the tone rings on each wheel. If you want to remove them intact, you'll need to pull apart the hub.

it be an while before i remove it any way coz i still want to keep it rd leagal. so i would have to get it certified anyway

Try 10lbs-15lbs of weight where it matters most on a FWD bias car (in front of the front axle). You can remove and and put t's in there (I don't think we found metric ts so you'll need to flare and thread 'em in. You don't want to just start ripping stuff out without understanding the dynamics of handling. An auto SVX will outhandle the same SVX with a manual tranny as it was designed with that weight in the center down low for the auto. Loosing that raises your center of gravity. A basic tip is low weight between the axles is good, high weight and weight at the ends is not.
A diet of the some interior (though I wouldn't do unless you are planning on putting a cage in as some sanctioning bodies bump you into a different class requiring a cage if you remove), front and rear bumpers, all the unneeded bolts and nuts and your ABS will loose about 350lbs and raise your car about an inch on the springs. It will also change your brake proportioning (not for the better either). Quote:
