New suspension problem

My mechanic (not Subaru) just intalled new OEM front and rear struts, strut mounts, and springs. When I drove the car to Sears to have it aligned, I noticed it pulled hard to the left, and there was an intermitant popping sound when I made a left turn.

The Sears mechanic put it on the rack but found he could not turn the wheel to the right without it truning back to the left by itself.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what my mechanic may have done wrong in the install?

Pics? He didn't try to put the rear struts on the front, did he? Are you sure he actually used SVX OEM struts?

He is going to take it apart and look it over. He mentioned something about a "washer" that may have been missing. All the parts were order from Subaru, so yes they are OEM.

Is it possible to mount the rear struts on the front or vice versa?

I don't think it should be possible, but some folks can make anything fit

There's actually not a whole lot to installing the struts. I'm wondering if he didn't just totally fubar the mounting bolts at the hub, as this is where you get your camber adjustment, or the tie rod ends, which is where you get your toe.

I once had a problem like this and it turned out to be the strut mount.Apparently the spring was literally winding up when i turned the wheel and would recoil when i stopped turning which sounds like what you're describing.I would look at the mounts

Easy fix. He took it apart and found that the washer had not seated properly when he compressed the spring. Works like a champ now.
