Well, I'm now an official Japanese classic.
After somehow finding a newly created Facebook club called the Japanese Classic Club of VA, I observed that they were to have their 1st Annual meet in Richmond (last Saturday). All pre-'95 Nipponese cars were invited. I qualify. So, I spiffed up the batmobile, & motored 3 hours to join in. This after "friending" the group, & getting feedback like, "Wow, I haven't seen one of these in years", "Those were cool!" etc. I figured the age demographic to be in the upper teens, to mid 20s, with lots of riced out old Hondas. I just hoped I could actually communicate with a group of millennials, when I only speak geezereze.
Well, rain was predicted, & the turn-out wasn't spectacular, but around 20 cars showed up. Several pre '95 Miatas were joined by a cherry '72 Datsun 240Z, a few MR2s & 3s, a late '70s Toyota Cressida wagon, a VERY RARE Nissan Skyline with 500hp, & a few others I've forgotten. Some of these vehicles were "works-in-progress", with power, & suspension mods being the goal, not bigger fart cans. There were also a few 40 somethings in the group, & I must say everyone was friendly, & polite. Overall, a great group of kids. I was especially heartened by the positive comments I got about the SVX. None of the "Yeah, but it's SLOW compared to my.........etc. It's a nice feeling when you're the only SVX, & people praise the bejeebers out of it. Ron (still alive).
