Re: e &m rigoli eg33 performance engine rebuild

Thanks for the info... it's a cool looking kit!
Regarding 'ripping the heart' out of an SVX, presumably he would source one from an auto wrecker, so the engine would already have been ripped out of an unusable car.
If so, then he is in fact preserving SVX heritage by keeping said motor functional (and in something really cool!).
Maybe he could comment on where he is planning to source his motor.

Note: not wishing to start a fight, just offering an alternative perspective.

Re: e &m rigoli eg33 performance engine rebuild

Sure, I didn't figure he'd actually pull one from an SVX, nor do I mean to be critical of his project. Just wanted to offer a possible alternative based on advantages I've perceived.

That said, different strokes for different folks. I certainly wouldn't dislike his car for having an EG!

Re: e &m rigoli eg33 performance engine rebuild

You are assuredly correct about the advantages... probably one of the biggest is parts availability.

I had assumed I could find one of these already removed from the SVX.

A couple of reasons I looked at the EG33 is it's larger displacement. Another reason is it has a what I thought was a readily available automatic 5sd transaxle that will hold up to a few hundred horsepower.

I know most people don't want an automatic, but I surely do. This car is a royal pain in the a$$ to drive. It makes me feel cool, (images of Steve McQueen) when I drive it. I never in my life would have thought that something I own would get me so much attention. You can not imagine the number people pulling up along side just to snap a pic! When I drive it to work, there are an endless parade of people snapping shots all day long. The secretarys downstairs used to call me every 5 minutes telling me that there was another one using a camera on it. They're used to it now and they do keep a good eye on it.

The suspension mods I've done have it riding pretty rough though. However it handles like a go-kart in the corners! Imagine laying comepletely down, with your feet in a tiny cramped tunnel that is just barely big enough for two feet and a little wiggle room to change the peddle that you choose. Perfect for a purpose built race car but hell to use casually while cruising the blvd. The worst part is getting stuck in stop-and-go traffic! Give me an automatic any day!

Regarding the automatic, fair enough. However the 5-speed auto doesn't appear until sometime around 2005ish? Until then they were all 4 speeds, not sure if that's a deal breaker.

And unfortunately, all the 6 cylinder engines are mated to automatics in North America. Well, since there XT6 anyway.

Re: e &m rigoli eg33 performance engine rebuild

There is an engine going locally to me:

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pts...909863638.html

I feel that they are asking a little much for it, and will probably slowly drop the price over the next few months... but who knows, maybe people will feel it's worth more without the car bit!

Good luck!
Ian.

Re: e &m rigoli eg33 performance engine rebuild

$1500 for a 60k engine. I really have no idea if that is fair or not but in some ways I hope they get it since I have a zero mile engine in storage right now that currently I'm holding onto.

But who knows, someday I may part with it.

Re: e &m rigoli eg33 performance engine rebuild

Hello Mr.Cobra Jet,
Thats an awsome car.
Im doing a project to build a eg33 engine in a porsche speedster replica.
Engine is in the rear connected to a porsche g50 tranny. with porsche 944 turbo suspention and brakes. a radiator in the front with 2 fans is importand to keep it cool in traffic. For your car could an EZ30 engine also nice. With stock autotrans and a.c. The ez 30 has an valve timing system wich need a little study.
