Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Took the horns off my '92 LS-L parts car and installed them on my '94 Dodge Dakota pickup which had a dead horn! Now the Dakota honks like an SVX!

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

To answer your question as to what I have done to my SVX today.

1. I drove it to the petrol station and filled it with fuel (gasoline for the Americans).

2. I drove it to work (a gig - I can fit my drum kit inside it.)

3. I drove it home and locked it in my garage (car hole)

Oh! I almost forgot. I manually wound up the seat belts and pondered on the many rattles the interior has developed.

Finally hit 160,000 yesterday, I'm doing a bit less than 5,000 miles per year.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Ran a full bottle of seafoam through the throttle body vacuum lines.....

Then drove about 2 miles before the massive amounts of smoke were gone. Has to be the first time that was done to the car, but boy does she idle smoothly now.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Added Stabil to the gas tank, ran the car 15 minutes and pulled the battery for winter storage. Previously ran the front tires up on two 2X8X24" to prevent the tires from locally compressing the macadam over the next 4-5 months.

Starting a subwoofer box for a cheap 12" sub. Want to get as much done this week as possible as it is not going to get any warmer in out work area (the great outdoors) for several months.

Another annual application of Rust Check after installing the winter tires.

The wheels were stripped , resprayed and then clear powder coated. Transwheel used some of the leftover paint to paint a panel that could be scanned with a spectrophotometer and mixed by PPG. Transwheel now has an exact perfect match for the BBS wheels in case I, or anyone else need it in the future.

The problem before was that they couldn't get a big enough flat area of the wheel to scan. The spokes and waffle-weave center caps were not smooth enough or to get a reading.

Transwheel did a fantastic job and did not charge me for refinishing the wheels.

Complete silver, no polished outer rim as before. A brighter, more metallic finish and a perfect match to the center caps.

The wheels still look smaller in size than the OEM 5-spokes

.

I bought 2 extra JDM BBS wheels to have as spares and put them over my workbench next to my OEM ones. In comparison, I can really see the difference in apparent size, even though they are both 16"

Our massive 5 spokes actually look bigger than the fine mesh on the JDM. Must be the amount of metal that reflects light.

Got 2 wheels, including packing and shipping from Japan for $150.00. Also ordered 2 spare center caps, in case I damage or lose one. Better to get them while they are still available.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Finally bit the bullet and painted the hood flat black. After years of trying to save the Carbon fiber look.
And re cleaned the headlights... Got the new brakes on the rear ( calipers, pads, and slotted cross drilled rotors ) stops are smooth again.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Expect to sell my first SVX tomorrow to someone flying in to see it. So today I vacuumed it and have assembled the service history documentation. A total of 13 years when I include docs from the previous owner. It appears that I'm the second owner in NZ. It was imported used from Japan (like most SVXs in NZ) with just under 100,000km on the odo.
Now showing about 162,000km so averaging perhaps 5000km per year.

Both myself and the previous owner paid mechanics to work on the car. Interesting to note that most of the repair invoices are 2 or 3 pages. Almost none are a single page.

Sad to see it go, it's the lowest milage of all my cars, has the best service history and is certainly feels much tighter than my daily driver SVX which is certainly showing all of it's 365,000km.

But as I drive 30,000km per year for work on an assortment of crappy NZ roads I really want the extra safety of ABS & airbags which the car being sold lacks.

So if you see Lachlan from Christchurch show up on the forum, please give him a warm welcome. And while I'm in the mood, welcome Daniel. You've got a nice car there and I'm sure you'll spare no expense restoring it to it's original condition.

Shane

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Conn,
I think you should put a stock hood back on it, or maybe paint it the color of the body. It doesn't seem to be as nice as the rest of your car.

I don't have the stock hood. It may eventually get painted the car color
I just hit tires of it clouding up.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Conn, that hoods taking away from the rest of the car. Flat black looks good on a street rod, not our svx's. Get yourself a stock hood and paint it, you will thank me the next time we meet for coffee.
