Custom Car Sighting

Had to share this one...

On the beltway on the way to work this morning, I was passed by a rather "unique" vehicle. It was a fairly late model Ford Windstar minivan that the owner had basically cut off right behind the drivers seat. He had then constructed a "crew cab" and a pickup truck bed out of...get this... MDF and plywood. Unpainted, yet complete with a little 1' by 1' plexiglass window in the back. The driver looked a little bit like David Koresh.

The best part was that a couple miles down the road from where he passed me, there were a bunch of sheets of MDF scattered across several traffic lanes. Coincidence, I think, but I'm sure a lot of my fellow co-workers got a good morning chuckle like I did.

I think that was actually one of the ill-fated Lincoln Blackwoods.

If only there were as much creativity inside the Beltway as there is driving around it.

Uhm, it didn't have Kentucky plates, did it?

"The Lincoln Plywood Blackwood"

Your second comment reminds me of a quote that I am not going to be able to attribute to the right person, or actually quote exactly, but it was something like:

"Imagine how productive we would be if people spent as much effort trying to get ahead at work as they do trying to get ahead in traffic"

PS, this was the Baltimore beltway, not the DC beltway (I got the feeling you were making a poitical statement there)

Ah, shall we dub this self-styled vehicle the "Ford Peckerwood?" "D

Naw, Randy, the bed wasn't full of Budweiser cans

No gun rack either. That's pretty much two strikes against it being a Kentucky truck... err van... vruck? trank? Whatever.

When I was a kid, one of my dad's friends had a VW bus pickup. Don't know if that was custom or not. I know the VW volks have made a few odd vehicles over the years...

Yes, we had several "Bug-ups" running around our community. Odd looking concept, indeed.

Think I just answered my own question.

I too love Google. Although I hate the fact that they are now in bed with AOL...

I'm going to name my first kid Google. I'm currently circulating a petition to get Maryland renamed Googleland. I call my girlfriend Googley-Cakes. On my voter registration card I'm listed as a Googletarian. I only eat food that starts with G.

Don't question my devotion to the Church of Google, brother Randy...

Talking A new challenge for you Googleheads

I tried to use Google and some other searches and couldn't find anything so now it is a challenge.

A while back I somehow saw a picture of a vintage Subaru that looked similar to the old VW crew cab pickup type thing. Smaller though, as all old Subies were. I think there was a regular van version and then the pickup type version (not a Brat though).

Find it!

You're talking about the Subaru 360.

You know what I think would be a cool summer ride? One of those cheap 80s Chrysler Minivans. Get a sawzall and just chop the whole freaking top off and make it into a 6 passenger convertable.

That's be sweet.
