Wink

That's nuthin'. Back in the '60s an acquaintance of mine bought a Mini in Germany, brought it back stateside where he & some Air Force buddies got ahold of a small Allison aircraft rotary engine & dropped it in the rear. Boy that thing flew!
Ya' know what it was called?

Yup - The Alice Cooper.

With regrets - Ron.

Super Cooper

There is a limited edition Mini that honors the wee Scot, and a famous child actor at the same time...

the JACKIE COOPER.

Hmmmm, and I work with gas turbines so I know how much of a challange fitting that would be.

I'll tell you what, there is no way you would get me on one of the turbine powered drag car/tractor pulling machines. I mean sit on top a life-expired aero derivative and open the taps ?? no thanks..........

Having done a considerable amount of circuit racing with a full race 1275 Mini Cooper in the 60's I can say for sure that NO Neon light could hold a candle to a good Mini.

That V8 powered projectile woud be a REAL fun road car. As I have said before the SVX is an old man's machine.

In what? The quarter mile or road racing?

I betcha I can find some N-cars that can school any mini in both forms. :P But let's take this off forums, shall we? PM me your answer.

I am in no way interested in straight line stuff. I refer to real racing on a road circuit with hairpin corners and a pack of competitors wanting space at every turn and better still without roll cages, run off areas and all the pansy stuff i.e. with danger present to sort out the men from trhe boys. Stopping power and handling is more important than engine power for getting to and staying in front. What is more the Mini can penetrate spaces not available to a larger car.

Not interested in debating on the basis of what has been told or read, nor in offensive language so will stay clear of the PM route.

Hrm. well, FYI, 1st gen neons were (are) extremely competitive in the SCCA.

http://www.cnyroadrace.com/scca/results/98solo8.html
... notice Alan Smith's car... 95 Neon. Fastest laps out of ALL THOSE CARS, including MR2s, twin turbo RX7s, Mustang GTs, 300ZX twin turbos, and a slew of Acura Integras. Surprising??? To you maybe, but not to me, because I'm enlightened.

http://www.empire1.net/racing/1999_results.shtml
http://www.empire1.net/racing/2000_results.shtml

http://neon.atsweb.net/erich2/Erich_main.html

http://www.allpar.com/neon/scca.html (scroll down for results)

I think mini's a great cars, and I'd love to race one, but.. honestly, I can't see them keeping up with that kind of competition. If you think a twin turbo RX7, MR2, or 300ZXTT is faster than a mini on a road course, then so is a neon.

But I don't want to start any flame wars, so I'm now done discussing this topic.

Anyway.
