OT - Been Outta Touch

I've been trying to catch up on seven pages of posts (at 20 posts per page), but, just can't bring myself to go through them all, as I normally would.

I've been out of touch since Sunday. I received a call from my sister, on Friday, that my mother had gone into the hospital that evening. I figured it was just another routine visit. She has been in and out for the past few years with various ailments. It had become commonplace. She was scheduled for back surgery in a few weeks, I just imagined it had something to do with that. However, my sister told me that she was diagnosed with pneumonia and severe anemia. Neither of us figured there was anything to worry about. Little did we know. Her condition began to deteriorate on Saturday, but, by Saturday evening, the Doctors were encouraged and we still felt we had nothing to worry about. I had planned to drive down Sunday to visit and lend encouragement to her recovery. My sister called early Sunday morning to tell me to hurry to Bowling Green (an hour and 15 minute drive for me), that we were losing her.

I rushed to get ready and headed out, but, not even the SVX could get me there fast enough. She passed while I was on the road.

The last few days were spent making arrangements, grieving with siblings, visitation and trying to make sense of it all. It was so sudden and unexpected.

We laid my mom to rest yesterday on a country hillside where she played as a child. Of course, at the time she was playing there, it was merely a hillside. I'm sure she never thought it would've become part of the cemetary of the little church down the road.

I apologize to those who may find this "over the line," as far as sharing is concerned, but, those who know me, know that I share practically everything with my SVX family -- some are closer than my blood family. Those who don't know me, will learn that I share every triumph and tragedy with this group of wonderful folks, and include them in all things. In fact, my SVX family was very close to my heart during my Mother's funeral - literally. I chose to wear "The Presidential Tie" presented to me at the 10th Anniversary Meet. It was truly a comfort to me to have you all with me, even in such a small way.

I am so sorry. My prayers go out to you and your family. I would personally feel bad if you had not shared that with your "family" here. It reminds us all that we are only here for a short time, and we shouldn't take any time here on earth for granted. I am glad this SVX family helped you through this difficult time. I know that this wonderful SVX Family has helped me through tough times as well as shared the good times. We are always here!

I am very sorry to hear that Randy. I had to deal with the same thing in October 2002. My mom passed away very suddenly... It is something that you hope dosen't happen till she has actually lived out her life and seen you with your own family... Atleast your mon got to see you like that Randy, I'm sure that you spent many enjoyable moments with her, and I'm also sure that she is watching over you and your family every day now... I wish that I could have been with my mom when she passed away, but I was on the Carrier USS Harry S. Truman... I had to be flown off to her funeral... Definitly the worst day of my life.... I know what you are going through. It will take time but you'll recover... Hope the best for you and your family

P.S.- I tried to do anything that wouldn't remind me of my mom to keep me from crying at work... It makes me feel better when I do think about her... Maybe that will work for you

Just back from seeing my own Dad in hospital, he is improving, and I am very saddened to hear of your loss.

Sorry to hear about your loss

There is nothing more that I can say that hasn't already been said. On a brighter note and since you have not been able to catch up on posts I thought I'd bring this one to you from Larry. Reading is a tad over 6 weeks away. Hope that brings a ray of sunshine back into your day!

My thoughts are with you and yours.
