shiny silver intake?

Mike and I discussed cleaning the intake one time when we met up, and neither of us had any luck with de-greasers, etc. i found a way to get it nice and shiny. details and pics coming soon......

i don't think it would be possible to get a chrome finish - the surface isn't smooth enough. you'd have to do some MAJOR work for that. just real clean and shiny!

Hey, MT Maniac, congrats. It's your 100th post.

I would think that if you polished the intake enough, eventually, it would get to the point that he has it at. What I want to do is take all the rough stuff off with wet sand paper, and then buff nd polish it. The problem is corrosion, How could I keep it like that without any coating over it. Clear coat is just going to turn yellow over time. What could I do? The second prob: If I smoothed it all out, would it hold more heat than it does with the rough surface? I would believe it so. Any input?

if you want a polished intake - this guy could probably do it. hell, the older 928 intakes even kinda look like the SVX intake. he does really excellent work:

i didn't want to spend that kind of money - my procedure costs $4 and some elbow grease. i'll post how i did it tomorrow. here's a pic, but its not too good. i'll try to get a better one in the sun tomorrow. close side is cleaned, far side is still dirty.

thanx BoominSVX, all you need to do what Shark did is use a wire brush and it will look like that. I would love to make it shine better than that though, little eye candy under the hood is cool, my whole engine bay is still dirty to a degree, way better than when i got the car though.

MT got it - wire detailing brush (looks like a big toothbrush, 3-pak at the Dollar Store) ,some cheapo wheel cleaner, and a bunch of rags. i put a little Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish on after that, and it seemed to shine it up even more. now to do the other side......

Duplo (Loctite corp. makers of "Naval Jelly") makes a spray on aluminum cleaner. I haven't tried it yet, but, SVXcess says it works wonders.
