Gorgeous car, even if the 911 purists wouldn't have it.

Re: Landshark is back

if the need to drive year round exists then get the turbo... if you want to go even older though, the 993's are appreciating in value now.

Yeah, they are almost as much as a new turbo.

Re: Landshark is back

this car makes me appreciate modern Japanese vehicles soooo much more!

- left front speaker dead, replace with new Polks. still dead. remove door and run new wire to back of headunit. success! replace headunit with iPod-compatible Bluetooth unit. added 12V accessory outlet while i was in there. added 8" powered sub box in hatch. not exactly priority stuff, but did it while waiting for parts in the mail.

- replaced heater valve to fix coolant leak and hot air through vents.

- cleaned several ground points.

- adjusted throttle, gas pedal, and transmission cables - were WAY out of whack

- removed fuse for front flaps - if they get stuck closed, car could overheat

- disabled factory alarm - would go off randomly .... immobilizer could potentially leave you stranded, didn't want that!

- removed glovebox lightbulb- has potential to short and cause problems. installed small LED flashlight in glovebox.

Re: Landshark is back

N/A 993's are not as much as a new turbo. Turbo 993's can run upwards of $100k, but you can find very clean N/A 993's for $36-42k.

In terms of repairs and maintenance, mine has been extremely easy to work on so far. Oil changes are $$$ though as the Carrera takes 10.5qts of oil and 2 oil filters. So, parts alone total almost $100 by the time you are done.

if i'm spending $36-42k, i'm getting a 996 turbo. for that much loot, i'd have to sell the Evo and it would need to be AWD for winter.

Re: Landshark is back

Crunching my calculator here, Mr. Deep Pockets could buy a fully restored, low mileage SVX and, have enough left over to vet all problems with the 928 pus, fly to Florida every time the weather gets really bad.
Gene
...and I did consult the Farmers Almanac.

After busting my knuckles on the 928 for a while, I started browsing SVX's for sale.
All I could find were red ones - not a fan of that color.

for me to do what i want to it, it would be hogging both garage spaces for a good bit of time. i just don't have the free time like i thought i would for a project car. its really upsetting, because i love these cars. the Evo is a scalpel, but the 928 is a sledgehammer - fun to drive in a completely different way.

i'm not in a hurry to get rid of it, probably wait for spring. not sure if i want to sell the Evo and get a 996 turbo (i can afford), or a cheap GTO as a second 450hp "fun" car.
