Ambulance helicopter

In Norway, you can't just modify your car without government approval. Also, a car's sticker price is usually more taxes than actual car price.

On the other hand, if you get into an accident and no car ambulance can get to you in a few minutes, they send out a chopper. For free

There was a similar episode last year but here you can see space constraint is not the only issue, there's also quite a lof wind.

The caption is a newspaper article translated by Google Translate, gives a good laugh.

Speaking from personal experience, we have the "Westpack" fleet that do the same recovery here in Aust. Pick you up off the roads in the mountains, fly you to the Hospital, no cost.

Harvey.

Re: Ambulance helicopter

That is impressive. We have the same service from our local medical center (hospital). No mountains to complicate the rescue in Florida. Most pilots are ex-military flyers. If you are a working person with medical insurance, they will charge your insurance. If you do not have insurance, the government covers the cost from the taxes we pay. No one is refused service in an emergency.

Re: Ambulance helicopter

Good. This kind of service is priceless and probably save a lot of lives.

And those pilots appear to be the cream of the crop.

Harvey, hope all turned out well in the end!

Re: Ambulance helicopter

Air recovery has gotten so bad in the Pacific Northwet that they are thinking of charging the people being rescued for all costs.
Mostly because some people take risks that others with more common sense would not do.
Oh gee, I think I'll go climb Mt Rainier today.........with little to no gear!
Or go skiing in the back country or closed off areas and get lost!
Pilots and rescuers put their lives in danger when getting these people out of tough spots and some should pay $ for their bad decisions.
These examples of rescues are not necessarily people that made bad choices, but it gives you a idea of how dangerous the job is.
These are hero's imho.

And this rescue on My Hood a few years back. Go to the 2min mark.
