An 4EAT has seporate resrevours for the differential and transmission, and two different types of fluids.

IMHO if the front differential was (actually)cracked, that would be enough to warrent replacing the transmission.
Metal in the transmission would have nothing to do with metal in the differential, usually.

Couldn't fluids mix if a seal was improperly installed?

What's your point? You do have a 4.44 swap, do you not?

No seals would have been touched typically when doing a swap. The only possible seal that could fail causing issue would allow trans fluid into the front differential, but not the other way. It would fill up the diff case with trans fluid and could cause a failure eventually if not caught in time.

Yes, IF the transmission fragged and under pressure pushed some contamanated fluit into the 0 pressure gearbox...

I completely agree with this statement!

And other than the NRA I do not agree with anyone!

I always believed it was a 1998 legacy trans that I had. Am I wrong? Why did I think that? I'm pissed because I had the original trans rebuilt, then I had the trans swaped, then I had the flexplate replaced and now the trans is shot? I hardly drive it, the swap was done in 2010.
So, should I rebuild the Forester trans or is there another option?
The trans shop dosen't understand why we swap out our transmissions for a smaller 4 cylinder trans?

We swap them for the mechanical advantage of a more correctly geared, otherwise identical 4EAT!
IF Subaru had installed the 4.44 in the first place transmissions would not be our biggest concern!

+1
They've been proven to outlast stock geared transmissions even after coming out of donor cars with over 100k miles.

Re: Not again! Tick tick tick

If the case is cracked, and the oils are contaminated with metal shavings, throw that one away and buy another transmission!

Getting another used transmission is going to be a much better option than even a transmission shop trying to rebuild a Subaru trans. That never seems to go too well.

Re: Not again! Tick tick tick

Thanks guys. The trans shop has someone who might be able to help. If a used trans can be located, they said I can have it for free. I would just pay for labor. My original mechanic also said he can help with a used trans for his cost, $400. (My mechanics worker actually did the swap 2 years ago, he has been long fired for using drugs) That explains alot.

Re: Not again! Tick tick tick

WTF!?? The Trans shop has my car for 7 weeks and they are still not finished. Is this a common thing? They keep giving me excuses about parts that need to be replaced and ordered. Hope this is all worth it.

Re: Not again! Tick tick tick

My God, what a tough time you're having with this! It's a little late but, there is a guy in scranton who has done excellent work for me in the past. The owner's name is Ting and the business name is M&D Auto Sales. I know it's far but he really knows his way around an SVX.
