lost my crank pulley

Has anyone ever had this happen. Went to move my car this morning, and heard a weird noise and my crank pulley separated in half, one piece on the driveway floor the other still in the car. All dash lights on, loose belts, etc. Should I buy a new one, seems the logical way to go with the oem ones. Also, dont some legacy model crank pulleys fit our svx's.

Re: lost my crank pulley

Thanks for the info. Called dealer, list is $189 for a new one, best they would sell it to me would be around $150 Are they all the same price if you look them up for EJ22 and EJ25 I guess if Im keeping the car long term I should invest in a new one right

Re: lost my crank pulley

Yep, get a new one, there's no saving the old one. This is a well enough known failure.

An alternative is the lightweight aluminum one-piece pulleys. They can generally be had for cheaper than OEM.

Re: lost my crank pulley

I bought a 1-piece lightweight one (not installed yet). Any performance gain is too minor to notice, but they have the added advantage of being 1-piece, so they can't ever fall apart. The kartboy one I got is also cheaper than a new OEM one, and also anodized aluminum, so it can't rust. Plus it's black, so it blends in well.

http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/merch...egory_Code=200

These guys have it for $90, but I think I got it cheaper. Shop around.

Re: lost my crank pulley

You can also try on your local nasioc chapter to see if someone that has upgraded to a 1 piece is selling their stock pulley. They usually go for around $30.

Re: lost my crank pulley

I have one of the Perrin pulleys. Weight = 1.2 lbs
Got it from these guys.
http://www.maperformance.com/perrin-...ey-subaru.html
It was at my door 4 days after I ordered it, not to shabby.

I have not installed it yet, but I had this same pulley on my RS and never regretted it.

Re: lost my crank pulley

Actually you were pretty lucky, that pulley could have fallen of in Bristol or while you were driving .
wouldn't that be something if that solved your idle problem

These must be designed to die after 20 years. Mine went this summer. Up here the SVX pulley is the cheapest one from Subaru. Considering the potential crankshaft harmonic balance issue of switching away from an OEM for the price of a couple large pizzas and a few beer I wouldn't take the risk.
