possible ECU problem/replacement?

I've had an on going hard/non start problem with my 95. Its been in the shop for weeks an the mechanic cant seem to find anything mechanicaly wrong with it. Its giving the engine coolant temp sensor code despite having a new sensor and the wires checked.
He seems to now think that its the ecu and i need to replace it.
My question is what years are compatible with 95, an how much should an used ecu cost?

Re: possible ECU problem/replacement?

I've swapped ECU's between a 92 and a 95 with no issues. You just can't use the 96, 97 ECU's because of OBD2.

Re: possible ECU problem/replacement?

What was your reasoning for swapping ECUs, if you dont mind my asking?
I read a post on here where a guy mentioned having throttle response issues and he swapped ECUs and it fixed it.

Re: possible ECU problem/replacement?

Curious on this answer too...I'm having major major hesitation issues and one day my car will get hit while pulling out in traffic because it won't respond.

Who was it that successfully solved that issue with swapping Ecu's?

Re: possible ECU problem/replacement?

Maybe more specifically, I've swapped engines between a 95 and a 92 without swapping the ECU. I have access to all the 92-95 ECU's so I could also swap them around.

He probably just replaced the wrong temperature sensor. There are two temperature sensors. One sends the signal to the gauge. One sends the signal to the ECU.

Re: possible ECU problem/replacement?

what do these sensors look like? I believe I changed one, but the other one not. Does one of them have a wire lead on it?

Re: possible ECU problem/replacement?

It's the less expensive one (22630AA041) and I believe it has 2 wires. It's been a long time since I had to change mine.
