AWD Binding

Just got my transmission replaced with the 4.44 transmission and now my rear wheels bind when i take sharp turns. I am running a code for the rear speed sensor, but we checked its voltage and it appears to be working. Before the tranny replacement I recently lost my awd and it was just running in fwd; however, the wheels didnt bind when i turned..just didnt have the awd.

Any help?

It sounds like you are having a problem with the transfer clutch assembly or the solenoid. Do you have a blinking power light at startup? Is your cruise control working?

I would recommend approaching the shop that completed your swap, as that shoudl have been addressed prior to returning the car to you.

Re: AWD Binding

yes i have the blinking power light at start up...running a code 34? or 32? cant remember exactly...it was rear speed sensor code. They replaced the speed sensor to try and fix the problem and it didnt change anything.

Re: AWD Binding

The car is still at the shop...he is trying to figure out what the deal is. The cruise control worked before the swap..ill ask him when i talk to him to see if it works now.

How do I check to see if the transfer clutch is working properly?

Re: AWD Binding

Sounds Like the transfer clutch solenoid. If you can get the actual code it would help. You can see if all 4 tires are spinning when it is on the lift. They may not all spin unless some gas is given.

Re: AWD Binding

haha yea the rear differential was swapped. Budfreak did the replacement...he found a ripped wire in the wiring harness of the speed sensor, which was causing the speed sensor code. He did some figure 8s soon after and the binding was gone..all seemed well until it started binding a little bit later on that day. I got the car back yesterday morning and did some figure 8s and it binded for a couple turns; however, it seems to be getting better...havnt had it occur yet since last night so i dont know what the problem is.

Re: AWD Binding

Mine did that too, eventually cleared up. I think some of it may be due to these junk yard trannys laying around for who knows how long.
