Yellow, IMHO, should be reserved for honda civics with huge wings on their trunks.

Powdercoat costs

I think I paid $60 to have all 4 coated. Keep in mind this was using a powdercoat shop near Ten Mile TN in East TN that does a lot of machinery component powdercoating for the company for which I work. The actual walk-in quote is probably closer to $80 or $90 for the set (that includes the mounting brackets.) A quote I got in the big city of Knoxville where I live wanted $35 a caliper, mounting brackets not included.

As far as prep work, you have to sand blast the heck out of them. He offers sandblasting for an additional $20 a set; well worth it if you don't have access to one. To get the smooth finish like mine, I spent a solid hour for all 4 grinding/sanding the sand cast roughness - no cost as I already owned the grinder and the flapper disk; I didn't even use up the disk. When you get them back, you have to chase all of the threaded holes with a tap to clear out any of the stray coating, otherwise your bolt hardware could gall when it's time to reassemble.

The smooth powder coat finish, combined with Akebono ProACT ceramic pads leaves NO brake dust on the calipers. I can go months in between washing the calipers and they shine bright just like in the pics.

Those look incredible, well worth the extra prep work to get the smooth surface!

After doing eight sets of powdercoating/rebuilding years ago for some members, I can tell you that anyone who is willing to take that much time detailing them that much gets an A+++ in my book. I will never to that type of work again unless the money is just insane

Troy, didn't you buy a set from me for your SVX? How are they holding up all these years later?

Doug

Mohrds, it was actually your post that got me thinking about doing them myself. IIRC, I replied to your post what an insane deal you were offering. I almost took you up on the deal , but waited until I had a second set of ebay take-off calipers to start the process. It was a labor of love, but well worth it. I wanted the satisfaction of doing them myself and in the process of rebuilding them, knowing that my entire braking system was at 100%.

Yep Doug, I was one of the lucky ones! That was some years back, huh? And after several thousand miles they still look perfect when I wash them (easier with the 5 spoke wheels on there now). The finish is still smooth, so even though there are pores, they wipe clean very easy. And with Akebono Pro ACT's, it takes a really long time for them to get visibly dirty.

So there's your 4 year review. Great job, and thanks for such a great deal!

-- OH YEAH, and most importantly, my brakes work great and I've never crashed into something! ~

Great! My insurance agent will be glad to hear that there aren't any product liability claims on the way

So no flaking arount the bolt mounts? That was my main concern that they might rust around those parts and get under the powder coating.

My red powdercoatedcalipers are holding up great, only problem is keeping them clean of brake dust.

I have the same problem. They are not easy to keep clean.

As I said (and the guy with the smoothed out calipers too), Akebono Pro-ACT pads are the way to go. Ceramic = hardly any dust. Like I was telling Doug, even though they aren't "smoothed out", they still take a very long time to get noticably dirty. The pads were $$$$, but have lasted 4+ years with no adjustments yet.

not always - i bought EBC Redstuff Ceramics for my LGT (thinking they'd be less dusty than stock pads ), and they are EXTREMELY dirty pads.

they bite like a m**********r, but i frickin' hate all the dust.
