New Smoother Diesel engine design

One company REGI US has been hard at work designing a new form of rotary diesel for almost 30 years. Their efforts have yielded what they call the Rand-Cam engine. So far the advantages seem to be quicker detenation in a form that also makes it have considerably less vibration and noise than your standard diesel engine by using a round shaped combustion chamber that almost resembles a wave like affect. The highest hp model they currently have is their 125hp RadMax series (first prototype produces 42hp and 40 torque) with the only vying customer being the military for it having potential use in unmanned reconnaissance aircraft. However, they are also in the process of making an accompanying electric generator which they are going to test along with the engine for possibile application in hybrid automobiles.

Here is the article, don't mind the blatant promotional nature of it considering it is technically a press release: http://www.thebullandbear.com/bb-rep...hive/REGI.html

Here is a link straight to their website: http://www.regtech.com

This engine maybe a big hit in the US automotive industry with the US and Canandian government trying to clear the way for higher octane as well as more enviromentally friendly diesel in an attempt to put more fuel efficient diesel automobiles on the road. Either that or like many budding technologies in North America it will see its first civilian use abroad.

Here is another article from a less financially biased site in which the author explains how this engine can actually use other fuels such as gasoline, ethanol hydrogen and even as an air conditioning compressor.

Foreign countries = fewer lawyers/less expensive guinea pigs.

I'll call bs. on this one, it's going to be as fuel inefficient as a rotary, if not worse. Look at it as a bassackwards, direct-drive jet engine, of sorts - just like the Wankel. Expanding gas pushing against a fan/rotor/vane. The combustion needs to stay in the engine longer to develop good torque and efficiency.

I like how they're all whoopie over it being able to burn hydrogen. BFD. What I'd like to know is what engine can't? I suppose with enough effort even a diesel can run on hydrogen.
