tranny question
I had a question for some of the pros on here. I noticed many people having tranny problems with the SVX. I've had mine for 7 months no Issues and I have the original tranny. What is it about the svx tranny that makes it so tempermental. Or is it something the people do that cause it.
I just dont want to put all this money into my car and find out six months later I have to spend 3K to rebuild the tranny, so I guess what Im asking is what are some signs to look for if the tranny starts going to crap? And whats the best way to prevent tranny problems. thx guys |

The problem with SVX trannies are really only in the 92 and 93 models, and they can be alleviated with an external filter, an external cooler, and the smallcar shift kit. The problem is inefficient cooling, and that the torque converter tends to flake, and the pieces get caught in the lines, which then clog the lines, and reduce cooling even further.

The other problems that it may have is wheel bearings and brake rotor problems. These problems come from a car that is fairly heavy and they did not put bearings in that would last as well as they could have. The best way to keep from having rotor problems is to torque your lug nuts to an even setting all around at 75 to 80.
As with any car, the best way to keep it good is to be good to it. Regular maintenance is the best way and not run it like it was a dragster around corners on two wheels. Any time you put stress on anything, it will wear faster and create more maintenance. Good luck on the car.
