oil leaking pretty bad on my moms 06 legacy?!

I backed her car out of the garage this morning because we had to go to my uncles house in bayonne new jersey and i noticed a big puddle under her car. I went and scooped some of the liquid up with my finger and it was oil. I popped the hood and checked her oil level and it was low...still oil on the dipstick but it was near the L. Looked inside the engine bay and couldnt see any oil or smell anything anywhere. Put some oil in and took it to NJ and on the way back we had the heater working and we could smell oil burning faintly just like in my SVX when i had my leak. Her car only has 4k on it and she drives really slow and careful. WTF is going on?

I mean the car is under warranty so it should be covered i would assume.

Someone didn't tighten the oil plug?

Something like this should be fixed for free right...since its only 4 k and under warranty and all.

Should definetly be under warranty ...

Two stories come to mind

1) I had a 1999 Galant v6 driving it I stopped for pizza in the Bronx and same thing saw a puddle .. turns out I had just had the oil changed (at the dealer) and the guy forgot to tighten the plug . .. I put a paper towel in the plug hole drove the car home on the parkway and then had the dealer pay for towing, another oil change and I called Mitsu and they had the dealer (or so they say) tear the engine apart and check for damage

2) My girlfiiends fathers new Deville the car was burning a 1/4 of oil every 1000 miles it took 5 tries back to the dealer then they finally put a brand new crate Caddy motor in it $$$$$$

Well her first service is due at 5 k miles. I told her when she schedules it to tell them that she is smelling oil somewhere and to have them check it out. I dont like my mom driving a car that has issues like that so i will ***** untill it gets fix0red. I dont remember anyone beating on the car during the break in period so i dont get what the issue is. The oil hasn't even been changed as they said to only have it done at the 5 k service.

It was like that down at Southampton docks when I went to collect our '94. Dozens of high-powered JDM imports: Skylines, Supras, Evos etc, fresh off the boat from Japan. The dockyard guys were drifting them in the car parks. No wonder the tyres are often worn out when the cars arrive at the dealer.

noob - have you checked the oil filter is screwed on tight?

Well I posted this on the legacy site and someone mentioned that subaru had a bunch of bad filters in cirulation for a period of time and the problem with them was that they would leak past the o ring or something like that. Either way the dealer should replace whatever for free.

This is the response i was given....

"Yes, Subaru had some bad filters in circulation for a period of time. The problem with them was that they wouldn't seal well and oil would leak past the rubber o-ring. Call the dealer tomorrow, and make an appointment asap. Maybe you had a bad filter from the start.

Either way, you should get that leak looked at."

Problem resolved...turned out to be the bad oil filter.

The sales manager took my car on a long business trip, but that was before my car was sold and all of the miles were recorded on the odometer. Luckily, I haven't run into any issues with the car. Everything is in tip-top shape!

I have to tell ya the people at this dealership are awesome. That was the best service we've ever gotten. People there are very nice and always ask if your ok. And they come into the waiting room to tell you whats wrong with your car. Then they even walk you outside to your car to make sure everything is cool.
