When I first bought my house, the furnace ran constantly from around November through March and peaked out at about 60 degrees during the bright sunshine of midday. Slowly as the house gets further done, the furnace runs less and less. I have it down to running a total of about 2 hours a day and my goal is to have it run no more than an hour a day.

its was pretty good after we got all new windows a few years ago - made a big difference.

it was probably off all night, night time setting on the T-stat was 66, and it was 62 when i woke up at 8:30. went down to 59 inside this afternoon, and its like 28 degrees outside.

kerosene space heater FTW.

When we lost power for a week I bought one and used it a couple nights. That thing put out mad heat!

It was 30 or so outside and within an hour my living room was up to 80 with that thing. Smells like hell though but heats so good you can run it with a window open.

Yeah, i've got one of those suckers in my shop. The place is so poorly insulated, snow actually blows in through the walls, and i can get as hot as a pre-campaign 92 transmission in there.

The down side is you smell like kero for a week.

i keep my house at 50 degrees inside. pretty comfy for me. the only bad thing is when the summer rolls through, my electric bill is farking expensive. but it's funny watching people come over in the summer with winter jackets

heh - thermostat here is set at 72 and I'm still cold.
I'd keep it tropical in here if it was my choice.

Tropical??? It's 30C/92F here, humid as all hell. Got the doors and windows open. Would love a bit of cold.

Aren't we hard to please.

me, too. Mrs. Shark is the thermostat nazi and makes me wear 4 sweatshirts around the house. i like to be toasty in the winter, and freezing in the AC during the summer.

not a fan of the kerosene stink, but i borrowed a Honeywell electric oil-filled radiator heater-thingy from my aunt, and it kept the entire top floor of the house warm! no smell, either. if i wasn't working this shift and we went to sleep at the same time i'd get one of these for the bedroom, crank the furnace way down at night, and let kitty cat fend for himself.

I'm going to build a house that you can heat with a candle and cool with an ice cube! Park a subi in the mud room, and dive from the kitchen into the pool on the first floor...

Watch for the 'floor plan' in future posts!!

Yea, If your gonna dream, make it worth the EFFORT!!!
