I got locked out once with the car running, but not with the battery dead.

The only partially non-invasive technique I could think of at this point would be to find a wire that carries +12V, and was reachable from under the car - splice into that with a jumper wire from an external battery. Ground/Earth (-) could be made to almost any metal spot underneath. That should allow enough current flow to get the electric locks working again.

Scot,

Here's a suggestion, it worked for me once when my key broke.

I am presuming your ignition barrel has been changed at some stage, which is why your ignition key does not work on any doors.

At least, I am presuming that the two door locks and boot lock are original.

If this latter is the case, and you have the logbook from the car, then contact a specialist keycutter from the motor trade, he will cut you a key for the doors. This is assuming you can give him the chassis number from the log-book, and the tumblers in the door are as they were originally before the ignition was changed.

I could give you my contact in Dublin, but he is too far away to be of use to you. You will find that your local Main Subaru dealer knows who can cut keys for them.

Best of luck,

Joe

The VIN is visable through the window, use that number and give it to the Subaru Dealer and they could make a key for you. I did that when I broke a key myself. I did not break it in the ignition, but outside of the car. (another story).

I like Lee's suggestion the best, but failing that, you could try picking the lock.

http://www.lysator.liu.se/mit-guide/mit-guide.html

I've never tried it on an SVX, but the locks don't look particularly secure. Even if you can't do it yourself, a good locksmith would open it in no time.

If you don't have the patience for that then try pushing a stiff wire hook down between the roof and the door and use it to pull the driver's interior door handle.

Phil.

Police here in the states carry slim-jims. Most tow trucks should also carry tools to gain entry to locked vehicles. Just a quick thought.

Good luck!

Talking

Thanks for all the suggestions guys,

I ended up getting the RAC out, the guy eventually managed to wedge the door open and pull the bonet catch with a bit of wire, couldnt get the locks to open he seemed to think it was dead locked. Got the boot open but couldnt get through the back seat so final option was the bonnet. Once i put the charger on the battery bingo got the doors open.

The old girls going for her mot next week so fingures crossed

Glad you're fixed up Scot.

Considering the trouble it has given you, you should consider getting a key cut using the chassis number, so you don't get caught out again.

Best of luck with the mot.

Joe

Looking at the doors with the interior pannel removed, I don't think a slim jim would work on our doors.
